sailing experiment, 2009-2010
Site specific installation, 300m3 Art Space at location Skup Palet, Göteborg, Sweden , 2010

Sailing experiment has been created on site after a month and a half of work in the space, using mainly material found there. Most material used were old equipment for sailing : metal cable, pulley and cable stretchers, which were own by one of the person working at Skpup Palet and who accept to lend me the equipment for the duration of the exhibition, Martin Westerdahl.

Cables were attached in between two walls, parallel and at equal distance form each other. Those cables were dividing the space, creating “corridors” in between where people can walk. On those cables I installed motors which were attach to pulleys : it make them move slowly on the cables. Light were attach to those mechanisms and were slowly changing intensity. As this mechanisms move on the cables, they drag whit all the electric cables connected to them, so slowly it was creating micro-events which require strong attention in order to grasp. Contact-microphone were attached on the extremity of the cables.

On one of the wall to which the cables were connected, which was originally painted white, the shadows of the cables and of peoples in the room were projected.  Speakers were installed against the opposite wall, which were connected to the contact-microphones,  amplifying the sound of every tiny movements which were happening on the cables. Also on this side of the room there were stairs for people to sit, which were a permanent  part of Skup Palet space.
